Our promise to travellers
Affiliate & Partner Disclosure
We think you should know exactly how we make money, because it affects how much you can trust what we recommend.
Last updated: October 2026
My Island Compass earns a commission when a traveller books with a listed partner. Partner placement is paid for, labelled as such, and never presented as an independent editorial ranking. Ratings are not for sale.
How we earn
- Partner commissions. Businesses we list pay us a commission on the bookings we refer to them. This is the core of how we keep the planner free to use.
- Affiliate links. Some links — for example, gear in our Trip Kit or booking links to tours and hotels — earn us a small commission if you buy or book through them, at no extra cost to you.
- Concierge bookings. For some experiences we handle the booking and payment ourselves and keep a share, with the balance going to the operator.
What paid placement does — and does not — do
Paying us can affect visibility: a partner on a higher tier may appear more prominently within their island and category. Paying us does not buy a good rating, a review, or the removal of a bad one. We label paid placement clearly and never dress it up as a neutral “best of” ranking.
Why you can still trust our recommendations
For islands where we have built a verified directory, we only recommend businesses we have actually checked. Whether or not a business pays us, we will not recommend something we believe is unsafe, dishonest or poor value. If we would not send our own family there, we will not send you.
Questions
If anything about how we earn is unclear, ask us. Businesses can read the full Partner Agreement and rate card.
